The itineraries around Cala Gonone can be covered on your own or with guides.

ITINERARY 1: THE BEACH OF CALA CARTOE

Duration: Full day excursion
Departure: Cala Gonone
Stops: Littu Pass, Cala Cartoe, thermal bath of San Giovanni, the cave of Ispinigoli, the town of Dorgali.
Covered distance: 34 km

Description:
Circular route. A demanding route that departs from Cala Gonone’s camping site towards the Littu Pass. The cement road winds upwards on a steep ascent for a few km . Once you’ve crossed the pass, just follow the directions to the beach of Cala Cartoe. After a worthy stop on the beach, follow the same track back until you’ve reached the crossing to Cala Osalla and turn right on the paved road.
Some suggested stops along the way are the thermal bath, the small Church of San Giovanni, the cave of San Giovanni and the cave of Ispinigoli. To return to Cala Gonone, simple follow the directions to Dorgali on the 125 state road. Once passed the town of Dorgali enter the tunnel towards Cala Gonone and follow the paved road down to the town.

ITINERARY 2 : FOREST OF GHIVINE

Stops: Nuraghe Mannu, Forest of Ghivine, Suttaterra, tunnel
Covered distance: Approximately 31 km

Description:

Circular route. Demanding excursion through the Supramonte of Dorgali, amongst woods of Holm oaks, natural rocky arches and breathtaking landscapes. Departure is from Cala Gonone. Arrival, after 2 and a half hours, is on the highest point measuring 800 metres above sea level.

From there you can enjoy a panoramic view overlooking the entire Gulf of Orosei and the canyon of Gorroppu. The track is not clearly marked, therefore it is highly recommended to be accompanied by guides or to use GPS devices.

ITINERARY: CANYON GORROPPU

Duration: Day excursion only for expert bikers
Departure: Cala Gonone
Stops: Nuraghe Mannu, the Forest of Ghivine, Sutaterra, Sa Pruna, the river Flumineddu,the canyon of Gorroppu, the bridge of S’abba Arva, the valley of Oddoene
Covered distance: approximately 43.5 km

Circular route. A very demanding route through the Supramonte of Dorgali, amongst forests of Oaks, natural rocky arches and breathtaking views. Departure is from Cala Gonone. Arrival, after 2 and a half hours, is on the highest point measuring 800 metres above sea level. From there you can enjoy a panoramic view overlooking the entire Gulf of Orosei and the canyon of Gorroppu.

The ride down into the valley leads to the entrance of the Gorroppu Canyon, one of the most important canyons in Europe. The first part of the track is poorly marked therefore it is highly recommended to be accompanied by guides or to use GPS devices.

ITINERARY 4: CALA LUNA FROM "BUCHIARTA"

Departure: Cala Gonone
Stops: Nuraghe Mannu, Cumbida Prantas, Buchi Arta, Scala e S’arga, Codula di Luna, the beach of Cala Luna

Description
Circular route with return by boat. A demanding excursion through the Supramonte of Dorgali and along the beautiful coastline in the east of Sardinia..
From Cala Gonone tackle the steep climb up towards the tunnel .

After 3 kilometres take the first deviation to the left. The cemented track continues up to the crossing that leads to the sheepfolds of Buchi Arta to the left. The upward climb with natural height differences on dirt and cemented tracks is demanding.

The ancient downward paths were marked by coalmen. The final destination is the lovely beach of Cala luna (ono of the best beaches of Sardinia) surrounded by colourful Oleanders.
The return trip to Cala Gonone is carried out by boat (boat ticket not included in the price).
